BasicBot Privacy Policy
BasicBot is a Discord bot operated by Sam Grover. This policy covers every copy of the bot, each of which runs in its own Discord server with its own separate data. It explains what the bot keeps, why, who else sees it, and how to have it removed.
What the bot reads
To respond to commands and run its games, the bot reads messages in the channels it can see, through Discord’s Message Content and Server Members access. Most messages are read and then discarded. The bot never stores the text of ordinary chat messages or attachments.
What the bot keeps
- Discord identifiers: your user ID, display name, and the IDs of the servers, channels, and messages the bot interacts with.
- Activity log: for server stats, recaps, and Wrapped, one record per message, command, reaction, button click, join, and leave. A record says who, where, and when, and for reactions which emoji. It never includes what was said.
- Game and XP records: XP, level, rank role, achievements, login streaks, trivia questions asked and answered, Trivia Pie slices, and the choices you make in Priorities and Sneak a Word.
- Birthdays: if a server admin adds you to the birthday list, your birthday (month and day) and any trivia questions and anecdotes the admin writes about you.
- Things you ask it to remember:
!askkeeps your last few exchanges in memory so the conversation makes sense. They are not written to disk and are cleared by!askresetor a restart.- If you turn on
!memory, the bot also saves a short profile of helpful details it learns from your!askchats. Memory is off unless you turn it on. - Running jokes set with
!heybotare saved as server lore. - Feature requests made with
!requestsave your request text and display name.
- Diagnostic logs: the bot writes logs to find and fix problems. They can include command names, request text, and display names. They are size-capped and overwrite themselves as they fill.
Who else handles it
- Discord delivers everything the bot sends and receives, under Discord’s Privacy Policy.
- Google Gemini writes the bot’s replies to
!ask, so your!askmessage, the recent conversation, and your memory profile (if it’s on) are sent to Google. Gemini also writes short intros for weekly recaps, Wrapped, birthday greetings, and some game results, using display names and stats such as message counts and trivia scores. - Klipy receives your search terms when you use the GIF command.
- GitHub: a feature request that passes the server vote is filed as an issue in a private GitHub repository, with its text, your display name, and the server’s name.
- Google Cloud hosts the bot and stores its backups in the United States.
Your data is never sold, shown ads against, or sent to analytics services.
How long it’s kept
Data is kept while the bot is in your server so stats, XP, and games keep working. Nightly backups are kept so the bot can be restored after a failure.
Your choices
!memory offstops new memory, and!forgetdeletes the profile the bot has learned about you.!askresetclears your current!askconversation.- Games such as Priorities and Sneak a Word are opt-in: leave them at any time.
- To have your data deleted, or to ask what the bot holds about you, email support@tentenbits.com with your Discord username and the server you share with the bot.
Children
Discord requires its users to be at least 13 (or older where local law requires). The bot is meant for the same audience and does not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.
