- Journey insights: streaks, activity heatmap, mood trends, and achievements
- Glimpse: on-device reflections on your day, powered by Apple Intelligence where available
- Rename core terms like Practices, To-dos, and Lead for the whole group
- Syncs through iCloud on iPhone and iPad, with no account and no server
Glade is a private, shared journaling app for iPhone and iPad. One person sets up a group and writes its daily prompts, goals, to-dos, and practices. Everyone they invite journals against them, checks things off, and builds streaks together. The Together tab is designed for couples: each day brings one question, and neither person sees the other’s answer until both have replied.
Everything lives in iCloud. There’s no account to create, no backend, and no analytics. Journals sync and are shared entirely through Apple’s CloudKit, and Glimpse reflections are generated on-device and never stored or sent anywhere. Glade is currently in TestFlight beta.
Under the hood
- SwiftUI with the Observation framework, targeting iOS 26
- Core Data + CloudKit via NSPersistentCloudKitContainer, using a private store plus a shared store for CloudKit share zones. Invites are standard iCloud share links.
- No server. CloudKit handles identity, sync, sharing, and push notifications.
- Versioned, additive-only schema migrations, verified by tests and deployed with cktool
- On-device intelligence through Apple’s Foundation Models and Natural Language frameworks
- Zero third-party dependencies and about 730 tests written with Swift Testing
How I built it
I built Glade with Claude Code using a spec-driven workflow. Each feature started as a brainstorm and turned into a written design spec and implementation plan. Subagents then executed the plan task by task, with a review between tasks and a final review of the whole branch before the build shipped to TestFlight. Custom Claude skills generate the Together questions and journal prompts against written rubrics, and I review every batch.
From June through September 2026 that added up to over 1,000 commits, about 33,000 lines of Swift, and more than 80 design specs. Glade replaced an earlier Next.js web version of the same app.
